On the Bard College campus, this small beautiful walled garden overlooking the Hudson River and Catskill mountains will take your breath away.

The second largest collection of clematis in the world. Thousands of flowering plants, a private garden open to the public midweek only by appointment (best in June).

Perfectly manicured grounds in a sublimely beautiful setting. Open June through September.


Magical place, tucked away down a road in Millbrook, Chinese Cup Garden, emphasis on the elements of water, air and stone.

Super close to the Inn and a great way to offset your breakfasts’ calories, quick hike up a 650 ft hill with great Hudson Valley views.

Very popular gentle walk towards the river, natural material gazebos along the way, bring sunscreen.

While not exactly the country, this formerly abandoned railway bridge in Poughkeepsie was converted into an impressive linear park. 200 feet above the Hudson River, it boasts scenic views from a unique perspective, especially as a pedestrian.

Take an interesting and diverse short 1.3 mile hike on the slightly eery grounds of the barely used “Mooney” campus.

Just before the Staatsburg estate this small collection of trails will give a good sampling of simple HV terrain.

Two separate spots a mile or so apart, one flatter with water elements to explore and one with stupendous local valley views.
